About
Alex Acosta is an up-and-coming poet born and raised in the mountains of Hendersonville, NC. He is a child of immigrants from Mexico and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a first generation college graduate. He received his degree in environmental health from the Gillings School of Global Public Health by the generosity of the Covenant program at UNC, a program that provides financial aid to low-income students. He plans to attend medical school and pursue a career in primary care.
Acosta’s poetry explores family relationships, his youth in the mountains, and his introspective nature. His writing emphasizes the small details of life that often go unnoticed to examine larger realities. Acosta’s work empowers his audience to take a more mindful, observant approach to life, and to grow more comfortably into themselves in the process.
